A Rhode Island couple was charged with drunken driving after they were both involved in a car crash in the same car on Sunday.
Katie L. Hannaway, 25, and Victor Tavares, 25, were arrested after both said they were driving after the 2:38 a.m. crash near 1055 Worcester St. in Natick.
In a report filed in Framingham District Court yesterday, Sgt. Richard Hoffman said he was one of the officers who responded to the crash, finding a Nissan Maxima with heavy damage against a guardrail.
Tavares was standing next to the car and speaking to Hannaway, who was sitting on the driver’s side. Both said Hannaway was driving.
Tavares had trouble standing and walking, and at one point he fell head over heels over a guardrail, Hoffman said.
Hannaway, who also appeared drunk, said she only had one drink, police said.
Officers became suspicious about who was driving because of several clues inside the car.
“The seat was pushed far back, which was more consistent with a tall person driving,” the report said.
