Port of Cebu exceeds target for this year

THIRTY Cebu importers paid P3.738 billion in duties and taxes this year, which helped the Bureau of Customs (BOC) Port of Cebu to surpass its P8-billion collection target by P50 million.
Port of Cebu District Collector Ronnie Silvestre said the amount is an “all-time high in the history of the Port of Cebu,” or 16 percent more than last year’s collection of P6.885 billion.

As of Dec. 27, the Port of Cebu needed P70 million to make the target. But at the end of yesterday, the last working day of the year, the office had a surplus of P50 million.
“This collection performance (P8.050 billion) is the biggest take of the Port of Cebu”, said Port of Cebu cashier Abarintos said.
Top 30 importers
Silvestre said the 30 top importers imported P28.037 billion worth of goods this year, with a volume of 1.270 billion metric tons.
