Tiffany's song: local 14-year-old to release CD

Wearing the khaki skirt of her Hanes Magnet School uniform, eighth-grader Tiffany Bramblett picks up her Yamaha guitar and sings, clearly at ease during an impromptu performance in the school cafeteria for an audience of one. She doesn't miss a beat when other students and teachers pause to listen.
And when she sings, it's easy to imagine her performing on a lighted stage in front of thousands. She's releasing her first CD of original songs, "Crossroads," at The Garage on Saturday under her stage name, Tiffany Ashton. This summer, she plans to be in Atlanta working with Jan Smith Studios, whose clients include Justin Bieber, Usher, The Band Perry and many others.
"I love the way it feels to sing and the way people enjoy it," Tiffany said. "In that moment people know me, and I feel like I know them because we share something in that moment, we really do."
Tiffany, 14, moved to Winston-Salem in 2003. Her mother, Cyndi Ashbaugh, had been searching for a place to live that had resources to help her son, Tristan, who has autism. Doctors initially told Ashbaugh and her former husband that Tristan wouldn't talk or be able to function, Ashbaugh said. Now Tristan, 13, plays golf and has competed in the Special Olympics.
