GVCC makes donation to local shelters

The Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce recently donated a portion of the proceeds from its third annual fall auction to three local animal shelters.
Through auction earnings, the chamber was able to give $1,500 each to Animal Care Sanctuary in East Smithfield, the Bradford County Humane Society in Ulster and Stray Haven Humane Society in Waverly. Chamber officials chose the three organizations to receive the funds prior to flooding in September, according to a release from the chamber. However, the donations are timely given a post-flood influx of animals that has put a recent strain on all three shelters.
The Oct. 26 auction was held at the LOOM in Waverly and included items donated by local businesses as well as a pre-auction food tasting with goods from local restaurants and merchants including Blue Heron Acres, Celebrations Catering, the Rail House Restaurant, Howie's Pizza and Subs, Ted Clark's Busy Market and Sweet Dreams Bakery.
Businesses donated 77 items which were auctioned off at the event, aided by auctioneer and chamber member Dan Earl.
