Jury to get rape, robbery case involving former Memphis football star Xavier ...
A jury is scheduled to being deliberations this afternoon in the rape and robbery case against former Memphis football star Xavier Crawford.
Crawford, 42, is accused of beating and raping a 67-year-old woman in 2009 in the driveway of her Raleigh home and then stealing her car.
The woman told a Criminal Court jury this week that although she was hospitalized for 18 days with multiple injuries, she remembered Crawford’s face and picked him out of a police photo spread.
Police said the former player known as “X Man” also was linked to the crime by his DNA found in semen, sperm and saliva left on the victim.
Her blood also was on his shoe and some of his belongings were found in her Nissan Maxima recovered later in Millington.
The 250-pound Crawford, who has numerous other criminal cases, has been in jail the past three years.
In August of 2009, he began serving eight years in prison for drunken driving, aggravated assault and a stalking charge involving former Memphis City Council member Pat Vander Schaaf, whom he had been dating and living with at one time.
