maxima i beleive is the strongest line for your money...i have had very good success with it and the world record king salmon caught by les anderson on the kenai river was 97 pounds and cought on 20 pound maxima

Brother Rambob looked like he'd been jabbed with a cattle prod, all from fighting a fish.
The big trout sent a series of shockwaves, from lure to line to fishing rod, and Rambob held on for each jolt. The fish boogied and bulldogged, surged to the surface, and then flashed to the side, where we got our first glimpse of it.
"Look at that, the size of that fish," he said. "I'm stunned how big these trout are, way bigger than I expected. Really strong."

l personally have had excellent luck with maxima – l use the green supersoft – a lot of the copolymers like silver thread are excellent also. it does have a couple of drawbacks, however: more expensive than nylon mono, heavier than water so it sinks making it difficult to use well with dry flies or surface lures, difficult to tie a strong knot (unless perhaps some of the newer... Sounds like you’re describing fluorocarbon which has the same light refractive index as water making it virtually invisible under water....
