Wreck briefly closes interstate lane
One lane of eastbound Interstate 40/85 in Burlington was briefly closed following a wreck that happened about 7 p.m. Thursday.
Trooper G.M. Dawkins of the State Highway Patrol said the driver in the single-car wreck suffered what appeared to be relatively minor injuries.
The wreck happened near the interstate’s Maple Avenue exit. Dawkins said Oscar Ehivue told him he swerved to avoid another vehicle that was attempting to enter his lane, striking the middle median. That force sent the vehicle off the road to the right, Dawkins said. Ehivue’s car struck a barrier there, returning it to the lane closest to the median. That lane was closed for 30 to 45 minutes with assistance from the Burlington Fire Department.
Ehivue, 36, is from Greensboro. He was driving a 1997 Nissan Maxima that appeared to be a total loss, Dawkins said.
Dawkins does not anticipate charges in the wreck. There was no way to track down the vehicle Ehivue said attempted to enter his lane, Dawkins said, and there is also no evidence to contradict what the driver told him.
