The Order Guide: 2012 Nissan Maxima
20.05.12
Do you remember the commercial where the Nissan 370Z owner finds out he’s going to be a daddy?
He stares at his baby — in this case, the car — before pulling and tugging and stretching the 370Z into a Maxima. It’s a sports car turned sports sedan.
Well, almost. What the commercial doesn’t show is the driveline changing from rear-drive in the 370Z to front-drive in the Max.
Whether a front-drive sedan can also be a sports sedan is up to you.
But irrespective of that, the Maxima offers a decent level of luxury at a relatively attractive price. Standard features include heated seats, power adjustable seats (eight-way for the driver, four-way for the passenger), leather-appointed seating surfaces and, something that’s not often found as standard equipment at any price, let alone for less than $40,000, a heated steering wheel.
The list of appointments is pretty extensive.
The engine is Nissan’s award-winning 3.5-litre VQ V6 engine, rated in this case for 290 horsepower and 261 pound-feet of torque. The only transmission offering is an Xtronic CVT with manual-shift feature.
